Week 6 Term 3 Blog Post: ARGS!

Hey hey hey! Welcome back to my blog post! Since my last post, I have delved into the deep pit that is ARG design. And I'm pretty proud of myself. I've done over 3 in-school ARGs and I'm still thinking of more! This is a piece of writing that I did about what they are.

"An ARG (Alternate Reality Game) is an interactive story that uses real-world concepts as a platform to build a story. Most commonly these are made for fun, but sometimes they are made for businesses. A good example of this would be Local 58. ARGS usually start in the first stage of creation, brainstorming. The Gamerunners (people who control the game) will try to come up with an idea for a compelling story. They usually do this in private, as to not spoil the story.

After they formulate an idea, they need a timeline. The timeline can either be loose, where the Gamerunners will adapt the story based on the players, or Fixed, where they have a set story they want to tell. The most important aspect of creating a convincing story is to leave some room for your story to change. After creating a timeline, they will usually create a medium for the gamerunners to tell their story. Multiple great ARGS use twitter, youtube, reddit, or instagram, but there are also multiple real-world mediums like posters, found footage, and custom-made websites.

Once they have created their medium to tell their story, formulated a plan for their story, and prepared content for the players, they can start the game. This usually starts with a trailhead, posted on a popular social media site to gain more attention to the account and continues on for a number of months or weeks, but it can also not be publicised, left there for people to stumble on.

While players interact with the account and the content, it is good to keep track of them. Make sure to help them if they absolutely need it, and don’t feel afraid to break character if you need to. ARGS are mainly about entertainment and learning, so make sure you enjoy the process of creating and running your project.

Once your project is complete and the players have been given a satisfactory ending, you can pat yourself on the back. Usually, after an ARG’s runtime, it is archived, but if you’d wish, you can remove all proof of the ARG. In conclusion, running an ARG is a long, strenuous process, but it’s always worth it to have fun and enjoy the process and interact with your fans."

I really enjoyed writing this, and I feel like it helped me improve my writing skills along with my punctuation. I hope you enjoyed it too! Thank you for reading, and I'll see you next post!

Week 2, Term 2 Tuesday: Alternate Reality Games

Hey hey hey! Welcome back to my blog! Today, I'm going to be talking about Alternate Reality Games! An Alternate Reality Game (ARG) is an interactive story that blends the real world with the internet and fiction, to make a narrative that players (People who interact with the ARG) can unravel and solve. They mainly have horror elements, and/or are used for advertising movies, books, ETC.

ARGs mainly are puzzle-based, and I really enjoy watching them unfold, but I haven't really played any. Hopefully, I can find one that is interesting! If you're now interested in these games, PLEASE TAKE CAUTION as they can have horror elements that may not be suitable for all audiences. Thank you for coming, and I'll see you next time!

Week 4 Term 1: Sticks & Stones

Hey hey hey! Welcome back to my blog! This week, we've been reading this book called Sticks and Stones! It's about this girl in middle school named Elyse, who has this mysterious disease called CAV where all the words people say to describe her are imprinted on her skin!

Here is a small dose of my work.

"Journal: Sticks & Stones

Chapters 1 - 3 (25/2/20)
“Some people don’t think that one word can make a difference” In my opinion, this phrase is true. One singular word can make such a difference in someone’s life. Say, someone asked for the condition of their dog while they’re at the vet, and the vet says “Gone.” This one word can bring so much dread.

For example, recently, my brother left for University. It was very emotional, but it only really sank in when he said “Bye” as he was driving away. This was very emotional for me and my mum."

For this activity,we had to write a journal entry about how one word changed our lives. This is mine!

And this activity is about how the words imprint on her skin, where we had to write down words that were prevalent in the story! Thanks for coming along, and I'll see you next week!

Week 2 Term 1: Poetry & Introductions

Hello, welcome back to my blog! Today, I'm going to be talking about my work as always! So, this week, we've been working on Poetry! Here's a sample of my Identity Poem!

"Martin
Boring, Curious, Enthusiastic, Smart
Younger brother to Stanley and Joseph
Roblox, Holidays, Friends
Feels happy collecting seasonal items in games
Afraid of being alone
Would like to see Steven Universe on Netflix
Stanton"

It's a poem about who I am, and what I like. Everyone did the same thing, so it's not very unique, but it's still good. I also have been working on my All About Me slide! You can see it here! That about wraps up this week's blog post! thank you for coming around, and I'll see you next week!

Week 3 Term 4 Reflection: Spooktober's Secrets

Hey Hey Hey! Welcome back to my very uneventful blog! Today, I'll be talking about my halloween experience!

At school, we did alot of halloween activities. This included writing a story, dressing up, drawing on mandarins, and decorations. I will be sharing my group writing with you. Fun fact, I actually don't like this particular type of writing as with the time we were given, we couldn't do much.. Here it is!

Inspiration was from this little game, by the way. Roll the tape!

"One spooky night in the depths of the forest, there lived a knight and a girl. They were walking down a path and they meet each other at an intersection. They both decided to go down a spooky track that leads them to a black, rusty almost broken gate that looked like the entrance of a cemetery. They slowly enter. They see a shadow, but when they got closer… It was the grim REAPER! They run out of the gates to get to the knight’s horse and sword all caught up in spiky vines.

When they were riding away they found a treasure chest so they stop and take a look at it… It was full of candy and weirdly enough, garden gnomes. When they went back to their house they found a goblin staring at them so they give him a garden gnome then he runs back to his cave and puts the garden gnome into his collection of gnomes. Then they sat down, chowed down their candies, and got headaches."

The teacher seemed to like it, as she left a comment on the writing that said we work well as a team and that we did well. You can find information on the other work that I did on this crazy halloween day on the other class blogs of T4!

I know not many people actually read my blog, so I'm greatful if you actually are reading this. Sorry for not adding too much information. I don't really have the material that the group created.

I'll see you next post!

Week 10 Term 1 Reflection: Place value & Similes and metaphors.

Heyo! Welcome to my blog post, How are ya? Sorry this is a bit late but Happy Easter! Let's go!

This is my maths DLO! This DLO is about Place Value to the millions! It has 3 questions to test your knowledge and a REALLY good explanation. I shared this with my class and another class and they liked it!

This is my similes and metaphors slide! For this we had to fill in the gaps with either similes or metaphors depending on what slide we were on! We also had to put in images of objects we thought were interesting!

  • Martin is a Helicopter, Soaring to new heights every day and night.
  • Martin is a Cherry Blossom Tree, Quietly blooming and developing.

  • Martin is a Lush Field, Full of people having picnics and enjoying the day.

  • Martin is a BK Bacon Cheeseburger, Simple yet can explode with flavour any moment.
  • Martin is a Pair Of Army Slippers, Cute and cuddly on the inside, Menacing on the outside.

Martin 2018.

These are my metaphors about myself! We had to write down what we would be if we where A food, A plant, A piece of clothing, And vehicle, And a tree.
