Week 10 Term 1 Reflection: Place value & Similes and metaphors.

Heyo! Welcome to my blog post, How are ya? Sorry this is a bit late but Happy Easter! Let's go!

This is my maths DLO! This DLO is about Place Value to the millions! It has 3 questions to test your knowledge and a REALLY good explanation. I shared this with my class and another class and they liked it!

This is my similes and metaphors slide! For this we had to fill in the gaps with either similes or metaphors depending on what slide we were on! We also had to put in images of objects we thought were interesting!

  • Martin is a Helicopter, Soaring to new heights every day and night.
  • Martin is a Cherry Blossom Tree, Quietly blooming and developing.

  • Martin is a Lush Field, Full of people having picnics and enjoying the day.

  • Martin is a BK Bacon Cheeseburger, Simple yet can explode with flavour any moment.
  • Martin is a Pair Of Army Slippers, Cute and cuddly on the inside, Menacing on the outside.

Martin 2018.

These are my metaphors about myself! We had to write down what we would be if we where A food, A plant, A piece of clothing, And vehicle, And a tree.

  2. Hello Martin it's Zion from Wainui Beach School in Gisborne. Your plants vs zombies animation blew our whole class away - we liked your animations! It reminds me of when I defeated the far future boss 2 weeks ago, and your anzac work reminded of me of our Anzac assembly this morning. How did you do that plants vs zombie animations like that because I would like to have a go.

    1. Hey Zion! I'm glad to hear that your class liked my slide and animations! I'd have tor agree that the far future boss is hard to beat. I made the animation of the peashooter by getting a gif from the game and I did the animations of the buttons and stuff by using the transitions tab.

  3. Hi Martin, My name is Summer I come from Wainui Beach School in Gisborne. I really like your DLO, it's creative and I would like to learn how to do it. It reminded me of our prove its. Why did you decide to do it like this? I think that you could work on the ending of your DLO because when you get it wrong and you click the screen it says you won. Other than that it's awesome.

    1. Hey Summer! Thanks for being interested in my DLO! I decided to do it like this because I saw one of my friends doing a Pac-man maths DLO and I sorta did the same with a PVZ character! The ending of the DLO was sorta rushed because I didn't have much time.

    Did you design peashooter?
How did you put in those answers that you can click on?
I would love to use what you used in one of my presentations. Any tips?

Your DLO is awesome and I really like your layout and the animation but once I got a question wrong I clicked on the screen and automatically got it right,so maybe you could check your DLO and make sure it makes sense. Your DLO reminded me of our practice and prove it's we do for Maths. Your blog is amazing I can't wait to read your next blog posts.

  9. Hi Martin,
I like your equation, the plants vs zombies theme was a good idea. The equation of your strategy was a good way to solve that equation. I have a question when I check it out I got a question wrong then it said i was wrong but when i clicked again it automatically took me to the winning page. Maybe something to think about for next time.

  12. Morning Martin, thank you for sharing your learning. Your reflection has inspired me to get my class at Redhill School to use animation to show place value. Your metaphors have helped me to understand what they are, even as a teacher I would get confused.

Wow, I love your pick a path Maths slides that help others to learn about place value to millions! You've done a great job and I enjoy the speech bubbles that come up with all of the encouraging phrases in them.

Had you been learning about place value in Maths? I'm going to show this to my maths groups and encourage them to create something similar with their learning.
